Weekend ReCap

Happy Monday, Friends!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I know I did. Adam headed up to NoVa this weekend for his Fantasy Football Draft. Which left me at home by my lonesome with Charlotte. Except, not! Because my Mother in Law is awesome and headed down on Thursday night so that she could watch Charlotte for me on Friday while I worked (Miss Rita was taking a personal day). So our weekend, in my head, began on Thursday; excepting those few hours on Friday that I worked.

Thursday evening, Debbie arrived right in time for dinner - we headed out to Alejandros, Adam's favorite local mexican restaurant. We had a yummy meal and headed back home pretty quickly as Adam's grandmother was also staying with us that night. Charlotte had a great time reading her favorite book and giving kisses to her Great Grandmother. I just can't get enough of these pictures.

After work Friday, Charlotte, Grammy, and I headed over to a friends house whose pool we were checking on while they were on vacation. I am SO glad that Grammy was with us because there was a lizard in one of the filters and I just cannot handle that. I would have preferred a snake. Yuck.

After a brief swim session, which was ended earlier than planned because my sweet daughter is teething and was having a rough evening - we went inside and had dinner. I'm definitely on a make your own salad kick. Sometimes I get on restaurant salad kicks, where I think nothing tastes as good as a salad you get a restaurant, and other time I'm on this kick - where I can't get enough of salads made at home. So we had salad with grilled chicken for dinner. After dinner we cleaned up, checked the pool again and headed home. Grammy and I treated ourselves to some Dairy Queen blizzards while Charlotte and Violet lulled themselves to sleep in the back seat.

Saturday morning we were up and ready to rock. What we were going to do, we weren't sure, but we were ready! We headed out and stopped by April & Austins house as they were packing it up to move on out. It was good to see them, but we felt guilty we couldn't help with the move so the visit was short one. After that we headed downtown to walk around - we looked in some shops, walked through the market and the market building, and stopped for a bit to listen to some Bluegrass music. Charlotte took that time to feed herself a bottle...lazy bones....

Then we went to Red Robin for lunch. Where Charlotte kept us entertained once again with her laziness and knack for finding the most uncomfortable looking comfortable-to-her positions...

We saw Auntie Kinga and Uncle Dan at the restaurant and got in some good kisses with them. It was great seeing them, as briefly as it was, we miss them! After lunch we were all in need of a nap so we headed home and did just that. Later that evening Grammy and I watched a movie. It was a very relaxed and fun day. I was so glad to have help from Grammy and just some special girl time.

Sunday we another lazy one, Charlotte slept in past 8 am (teething is knocking her out). Once she got up we all headed out to breakfast at Famous A's where she ate almost an entire pancake by herself, along with eggs and yogurt. Girlfriend loves to eat! We did some grocery shopping, a little cleaning at home and then Adam and FIL arrived! We were all very glad to see our guys - Charlotte definitely missed her Daddy and was very keen on giving her Papa some extra snuggles too.

We had a nice dinner all together and after Charlotte went to bed, I crashed as well. Weekends are a lot of fun but are also exhausting! I hope you had a lovely weekend and that your week is off to a great start!

What would you pick?

This weekend, Adam asked me a really fun question. He said, if you had to choose 5 albums to be the only music you listen to for the rest of your life, which would you choose? Caveats being you can include sound tracks but you cannot include "greatest hits" or double disc albums. So here's what I came up with:

1. The Dirty Dancing Soundtrack
This album/CD whatever you want to call it is one of those that I could listen to at any time in any mood. It's fun & upbeat and also has some slow and romantic songs. So it kind of has it all in my opinion. It also reminds me of a feeling - of being young and having so much possibility in front of me. I watched this movie so many times in my teenage years and even visited the main filming location for a weekend stay with my best friend and her family. Though if you asked me my favorite movies I probably wouldn't list it in the top 5 it is definitely one that means a lot to me. Also - The Time of my Life was the last song played at our wedding reception so there's that.

2. Led Zeppelin II
I could not possibly have excluded Led Zeppelin from this list. The hard part was choosing one album. My all time favorite album is Houses of the Holy, BUT in this pretend scenario I'm only able to listen to five albums for the rest of my life, I chose II because Zeppelin is my rock out choice and II has that feeling for me more than Houses. "If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you..."

3. Zac Brown Band - You Get What You Give
So this one is the laid back fun having a beer and sitting on the porch choice. I'm always in the mood for ZBB and they don't disappoint. I also had a hard time choosing one of their albums but I picked this one because it also has a good variety. Faves - Quite Your Mind, Let It Go, & Make This Day

4. Billie Holiday - Body and Soul
This is the romantic choice. No explanation needed. She's perfect.

5. The Last of the Mohicans Soundtrack
Now here's the soundtrack to my very favorite movie. I couldn't exclude classical music or score when choosing the only five albums for the rest of my life but I'm also not quite cultured enough to have a favorite Mozart (or whoever) album. This is a beautiful soundtrack, the music is beautiful and calming. I just love it.

I gave Adam my answers pretty quickly when he asked me the question and he was able to give me his rather quickly also. We kind of love music. But I was somewhat shocked to learn that we didn't pick ANY duplicates. And his choices actually kind of disgusted me. Not that I don't like the artists he chose, because I do, but they definitely wouldn't be my final choices if I only had five to listen to FOREVER. I mean, he chose TWO Beastie Boys albums?? Really, Adam? haha

This was fun for us to think about and discuss. What would you chose?

July/August Goals

So, July came and went quickly! We had a lot going on and the end of the month was extremely emotional for us with the loss of Marlie. I only completed one (and a half) of my goals for the month of July.

1. Drop 5 more pounds! Ideally, I'd like to drop another 10, but I'm trying to be realistic here. Which ties into: Definitely did not do this one. Luckily I haven't gained weight this month - I've remained flat so I guess that's good...

2. Work out five days a week - with the Walk/Jog program and Jillian Michaels DVD. I'm really enjoying both of these and seeing the progress in my fitness level and the scale so I'm going to keep it going! Didn't happen. Time to get back on the horse!

3. I'd like to get to another baseball game as I know how much my hubby enjoys them. So I'm putting another Red Sox game on the To-Do list for July. The best laid plans....we didn't make it to a game this month either.

4. Have some friends over (other than my parents) for dinner/grilling one night. This totally happened! We had April and Austin over for dinner one Sunday when Bob and Debbie were in town. Score! It was a great day with delicious food and it was so nice to see our friends!!

5. CRAFT! - I've got a few crafting projects on the books for upcoming events so I want to get started on those! My original craft projects that I wanted to get done this month didn't get done, but I did create invitations for Charlotte's birthday party and the banner to show her monthly pictures. So I'm counting that as a half!

As far as August goes, we've got A LOT of traveling this month so I don't want to get too ambitious. However, I would like to:

1. Get back into working out and tracking food. But I am lowering my expectations a little bit and going to aim for at least 3 Days a week!

2. Read more! I am going to try and get a book done this month - not sure which yet, but I will try to read some each night.

3. Organize and sort Charlotte's clothes. She's got a bunch of clothes she's outgrown that need to be put away and clothes in the next size that need to be moved into her dresser. I might rearrange her room too....

4. Make a decision on Liberty and register for classes or defer for a year.

5. Go on a family walk at least once a week.

Happy August, everyone!!
